Food Track and Canada's Food Guide: What's New? Grades 8+

FoodTrack is the acclaimed series of nutrition education resources that helps students check their food choices to see if they are on track for food group balance, fiber, caffeine and fat. Learn what's new in Canada's Food Guide and how the FoodTrack series has been revised and updated. Find out how you can teach using these resources, and whether your own diet is on track with the new food guide. A folder of materials is included with the workshop. (2 hours).

Bone Zone: Messages for Anyone with Bones Grades 5-8

This fun, interactive workshop features the Bone Zone video plus video clips showing the program in action, in a classroom. Attendees will engage in several activities that reinforce the important messages about how diet and exercise build healthy bone. Bone Zone was developed in partnership with BC Ministry of Health, BC Dairy Foundation, Knowledge Network and Osteoporosis Society of Canada. Teacher guide and video: $15. Order Form (PDF 120 KB)

Passport to Healthy Living

 

Grades: 4-7


Challenge students to take responsibility for their health! Students plan and carry out a healthy living activity integrating physical activity, nutrition and environmental awareness. They identify additional healthy living activities and are encouraged to continue to practice healthy living. Kit includes:

  • Lesson plans
  • Video
  • Stickers and Poster

Calcium, Vitamin D and Bone Health Grades 8-12


Learn about current research on nutrition and bone health. This workshop highlights the importance of adequate calcium and vitamin D intake throughout life to reduce risk for osteoporosis. Find out your personal risk for osteoporosis and what you can do about it. Workshop will also feature lesson plans and resources appropriate for students. (1.5 hours)

 

Workshop: "Eat Together"

How can BC promote and support healthy eating among families and other social groups? Research shows that when families eat together, children and youth benefit in many ways. However, eating together can benefit members of other social groups too. Let's look at how we can work together to move this agenda forward in BC. (1-1.5 hours)

Health & Career Education workshop (Grades 8-9 and Planning 10)

Do you want to provide your students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to make informed decisions related to their health? Find out how in this fun and interactive workshop which:

  • explores factors affecting health through engaging case studies
  • assesses food choices using FoodTrackä -Check on Balance

Learn about other key nutrition education resources including:

  • Thirst for Nutrition - Add Value to Your Choices which compares the nutrient value of common beverages and helps assess fluid intake.
  • Calcium Calculatorä which helps assess calcium intake

Make a tasty and nutritious smoothie at the end of the workshop!

A folder of materials with lesson plans and assessment activities is included with the workshop. The workshop can be customized to have a focus on diet overall, on calcium and bone health or on both (1.5-3 hours).
